Kuwait urges UNCTAD to pay attention to debt monitoring

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Kuwait asked UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) to include debt-monitoring on its future agendas of discussion, a senior official at Kuwait's State Audit Bureau (SAB) said Saturday.
Essam Al-Mutairi, Assistant Undersecretary for Finance and Administration, told KUNA following conclusion of an UNCTAD conference on debt management, the Kuwaiti delegation wanted to see conferees discuss experience of some countries in auditing these debts.
Speaking to KUNA, Al-Mutairi said he addressed the conference on importance of application of governance on debt management.
"Governance depends on determining responsibilities and tasks for the decision-making process, coupled with application of rules and regulations related to debt monitoring," he said.
Al-Mutairi said conferees discussed role of auditing authorities over loans with the objective of making sure the loans were spent in right place.
The participants in the conference, he added, also discussed sustainable development, financing options, lessons learnt from debt crises and how to develop human resources to manage debts.
