(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) According to a report published Thursday by Britain's Office for National Statistics (ONS) the net migration figure in the U.K. hit a record high of 336000 up from 254000 over the same period last year.
The net migration figure shows the difference between number of people arriving and leaving the country.
According to the ONS data the total number of immigrants arrived in the U.K. in 12 months has reached to 636000. The most common reason for migrating to the U.K. was work with 46%.
The net migration of the EU citizens increased by 42000 to 180000.
Immigration Minister James Brokenshire underlined the challenge saying that they will remain committed to bring net migration to sustainable levels.
The figures show record levels of EU immigration "which show why the prime minister is right to negotiate with the EU to reform welfare to reduce the financial incentives that attract EU migrants to the UK" Brokenshire told an interview with Sky News.
