Russia to Suspend Visa free Travel for Turkish Citizens from 2016


(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) Russian Foreign Minister SergeyLavrovhas said thatRussiawillsuspenditsvisa-freeregime withTurkeyfrom the beginning ofnext year.

"This is directly linked with the security ofRussiaand our citizens"TASS quotedLavrovas saying following a meeting with Syria’s Foreign MinisterWalid Muallemin Moscow.

Lavrovsaid that Moscow was concerned about “a well-run traffic of gunmen viaTurkeyin various directions”.

The decision comes in the wake of a recommendation to Russian touristsnot to visitTurkeyfollowing Tuesday’s downing of a Russian warplane by a Turkish jet fighter in the border area betweenTurkeyand Syria.

The head ofRussia’s federaltourism agencyRostourismOleg Safonov saidon Wednesday that they hadreceived a recommendation from the Russian Foreign Ministryto refrainfrom visits toTurkey“asterrorismthreat there is no less than in Egypt."

Russian President VladimirPutinordered the suspension of all passenger flights toEgyptearlier this month following the crash of RussianAirbusA321 plane in Egypt’sSinaiPeninsula on October 31. The Islamic State group claimedresponsibilityfor bringing down the aircraft.
