Sudanese Government Committed to Doha Agreement - Official

(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) The Sudanese Government renewed its commitment to the Doha Agreement as an essential reference for the completion of the peace process in Darfur.

Head of the Government Delegation on the Negotiation for Cessation of Hostilities in Darfur Dr. Amin Hassan Omar said this agreement is the basis of any efforts to complete the peace process in the region as it is supported by the UN Security Council and stakeholders among the people of Darfur.

He said at a press conference held in Khartoum on Wednesday that the armed movements in Darfur do not want to specify the locations of its troops and seek a cease-fire.

Those movements are looking for using a cessation of hostilities agreement as an opportunity to re-deploy its forces, the Sudanese official said, adding that the government knows that some of these movements exist in Libya and others in the south and it will not allow a new re-deployment.

The armed movements impede the delivery of internal humanitarian aid and seek out external aid in order to use it in financing its hostile activities against the country, Dr. Omar concluded.
