Qatar- El Jaish aim to stop Rayyan in Round 10

Doha: Qatar Stars league (QSL) leaders Al Rayyan are looking to be the first side in QSL history to win their first 10 games of the season when they face El Jaish on Saturday.

For coach Jorge Fossati’s side the Round 10 match against the Armymen will be the toughest test yet. Al Rayyan leads the way with 27 points and an impressive goal tally of 34 that’s ten more than the next closest team -El Jaish with 24 goals.

If Rayyan win against El Jaish then they will build up a healthy gap between themselves and the chasing pack of seven valuable points. This will be all the motivation that the Lions need going into this clash.

El Jaish however have the best defence in the league having let in just six goals in nine Rounds of QSL action. In the previous Round both teams won with El Jaish beating Arabi 4-0 and Rayyan demolishing an already fragile Qatar Sports Club with an astonishing 9-0 victory.

In the last six games El Jaish has been victorious so it would be unwise to discount them going into Saturday’s clash and with the return of Jaish striker Hamdallah Rayyan’s defence will be severely tested.

Tabata has been imperious this season and has shown that so far age is no barrier as he has become the league’s top scorer after Round 9.

For Jaish Rashidov Wagner and Romarinho will all be key as they look to close the gap with the Lions and they will have to perform to their best in order to do so.

El Jaish has history on their side when they take on Al Rayyan on Saturday.

Only six direct encounters have taken place in the QSL between Al Rayyan and El Jaish.

The first of which took place in El Jaish’s first season in the Qatar Stars League (2011/12). In the 2014/15 season the two sides didn’t meet due to the relegation of Al Rayyan to second division. Despite the big difference in the history of the two clubs El Jaish has had the advantage with 3 wins whilst Al Rayyan has won two games. The tie in the first match between both sides was a real surprise as at the time Al Rayyan was third and El Jaish were in their first season in the QSL. The match was a high scoring affair which ended 4-4. Tabata who is having a season to remember this year scored a hat-trick back then and a fourth was added by Afonso. Goals for El Jaish came from Wagner Adriano and Marconi. The second match was on 2012 and witnessed El Jaish’s first win (3-2). Abdel Qader Elias Anderson and Adriano scored for the Soldiers on that night. Tabata and Afono scored for Al Rayyan. Also El Jaish won again for the second time in 2013 with a single goal courtesy of Abdel Qader Elias. Al Rayyan managed to get revenge when they won 2-1 in the 2013/14 season Daniel Goma and Nathan getting the goals for the Lions. South Korean Go Seul-Ki got the only goal for El Jaish. In 2014/15 Al Rayyan won by a single goal courtesy of Tabata but then El Jaish registered another win later in the season over Rayyan when Jires Kembo Ekoko scored a single goal to win it for the Soldiers.
