A minor fire was reported in Dubai on Wednesday two days after the Muraqqabat blaze which left scores homeless.

Dubai Civil Defence put out the fire which broke out in a residential building in a tower on the junction of Al Saada Street on Shaikh Zayed Road in half an hour.

Although no casualties were reported three people complained of breathing difficulties and were treated by the Dubai Unified Ambulance who were at the fire scene.

Spokesperson of the Dubai Civil Defence Mahmood Hamad said that the Dubai Police operation room received information about the fire in the 32-storey tower at 9.45am.

Fire brigades from Al Satwa and Al Manara civil defence stations reached the site and found the fire had erupted in the balcony of the 26th floor of the building.

Due to strong winds the fire spread to the facade of the 28th floor however it did not spread inside the tower. The fire was contained by 10.25am.

Meanwhile Dubai Civil Defence has urged building owners to abide by safety conditions while getting building maintenance work done.

Companies responsible for maintenance work should take preventive measures while performing welding cutting or any works requiring different types of heating procedures it said.

This came following issuance of the Dubai Police report in mid-November about the fire which broke out in an under construction building at the Dubai Festival City next to Al Fanar restaurant and caf.

The report revealed that the ceiling decorations of the restaurant caught fire from the sparks of some metal cutting work being done in the under construction building next the cafe. Major Jamal Ahmed Ibrahim director of preventive safety department at the Dubai Civil Defence stressed the importance of the inspections of buildings under maintenance by the contractor or his representative.
