20 female political prisoners raped in Egyptian prisons: NGO


(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) More than 2000 Egyptian women have been detained since the 2013 military coup againstPresident Mohamed Morsi theRevolutionary Coalition for Egypt’s Womensaid this week.

In a statement the group also said it has documented 20 cases of rape against female political prisonersin Egyptian jails.

“Sixty-two women are still being held behind bars” the Cairo-based group said adding that the women are being jailed on“fabricated” charges.

According to the statement 90 women have been killed by Egyptian security forces since Morsi’s ouster.

Anadolu Agency could not obtain comment from Egyptian authorities on the allegations.

Egypt has been roiled by turmoil since the military deposed Morsi the country’s first freely elected president in 2013.
