Qatar- Nurseries schools closing early inroads flooded due to downpour

Doha: Heavy rain and the resultant flooding of inroads led to closure of many establishments and offices and inconvenience to the daily schedule of residents in Doha.

Many vehicles had to wade through water at a snail’s pace to reach their destination. For many a 15-minute drive to office took over an hour’s time.

US Embassy Qatar tweeted: "Due to inclement weather the US Embassy in #Qatar will be closed today. The Embassy will re-open with normal hours on Sunday November 29."

MES School postponed its 41st Annual Day that was scheduled to be on November 26 and 27 due to inclement weather.

The Supreme Education Council (SEC) had issued a circular to all Independent and private schools and kindergartens to dismiss students early today due to heavy rain in order to preserve their security and safety.Much to the joy of children and inconvenience of parents most schools in the city decided to close early.

Even Independent Schools closed early in phases according to various grades.Georgetown University Qatar tweeted on their account “Due to severe weather related flooding across Qatar the campus will be closed today.”

A resident Joy Mendoza had to return back from his office to pick up his child from school and drop her at their residence. He said “I had just reached office after braving traffic for over half an hour when I got a call from the school. I had to go back and so decided to work from home rather than heading back to office.”

Many locals also complained of leaking roofs due to the downpour. A top-floor resident of a posh residential complex refusing to be named complained of leaking roof. She says “I had been always proud of my interiors and the beautiful view that I got from the top. But today morning at about 8am there was water leaking right inside by house and I had to call for help to ensure the leakage stops. Even my husband got back from work to ensure I have some help.”

Similar incidents were reported at various important building schools and shopping complexes. In fact due to the rain Villagio and Hyatt Plaza had also temporarily closed most of their shops. In fact there are videos trending on various social media channels showing leakages in various high-end hotels and commercial complexes.
