Turkey- G20 Communiqu: The fight against terrorism is a major priority

(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) Following the two-day summit in Antalya Turkey G-20 leaders released a communiqué calling for greater coordination and information to counter terrorist financing.

The joint statement noted “Building on its findings presented in its last report to the G20 we call on the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) to report back to our Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors by their first meeting in 2016 on the steps countries are taking to address the weaknesses identified to cut off terrorism-related financial flows.”

The communiqué followed European Council President Donald Tusk’s call on the G20 leaders on Saturday November 14 “to show full determination in our fight against terror. Here at the G20 we have a special responsibility. There is no better forum in which to address terrorist financing.”

According to RT Russian President Putin also remarked that Russian intelligence was shared noting that “This money [financing the Islamic State] as we have established comes from 40 countries and there are some G20 members among them.”

The G20 also differentiated between terrorism and particular ethnic or religious groups amid rising concerns of a backlash against Muslim communities and Syrian refugees throughout Europe following the ISIL-orchestrated attacks in Paris this past Friday.

These sentiments were echoed by statements President Obama made during yesterday’s press conference during which he said “The people who are fleeing Syria are the most harmed by terrorism they are the most vulnerable as a consequence of civil war and strife.”
