Fatma al Nabhani crashes out of Morocco meet

Oman's top tennis player Fatma al Nabhani was knocked out of the US$10000 Morocco Open ITF championship in the last-four stage in Casablanca recently.

The Muscat-based player succumbed to a 5-7 3-6 defeat at the hands of Corinna Dentoni of Italy in their semifinal match at the COC Tennis Club.

Fatma was seeded No 1 in the competition.

Dentoni who was seeded third went to win the trophy securing a hard-fought 7-6 6-3 victory against fourth-seeded Julia Grabher of Austria in the final.

Earlier in the competition the Omani player produced confident victories right through the first second and quarterfinal stages before stumbling in the semifinals.

After opening her account in the event with a 6-0 6-1 win against Marta Bellucco of Italy Fatma then secured a straightforward 6-0 6-4 victory against Kateryna Sliusar of Ukraine in the pre-quarterfinal round.

She then ousted seventh-seeded Italian girl Camilia Rosatello in their quarterfinal contest winning 7-6 6-4.

The 24 year old Fatma next takes part in a US$10000 ITF competition in Rabat the Moroccan capital beginning this week where she will participate in both the singles and doubles events.

The Omani player who is ranked 387th in the world is looking to break her career-best ranking of 362nd that she had achieved in 2010.
