Qatar- Minister of Economy Inaugurates Corporate Social Responsibility Forum


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) HE the Minister of Economy and Commerce Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim bin Mohamed Al Thani opened today the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Forum 2015 held under the slogan: 'Transforming CSR to Support a Socially Responsible and Sustainable Economy' in Qatar.

Ranking experts and specialists in the field of social responsibility, in addition to representatives of companies, ministerial authorities, organizations, non-governmental corporations and universities in Qatar are taking part in the forum.

In an inaugural speech, HE the Minister of Economy and Commerce underlined the importance of the forum in promoting the concept of corporate social responsibility through shedding light on international trends in this field and benefiting from them in a way contributing to the enhancement of corporate social responsibility.

In this respect the Minister said the Ministry of Economy and Commerce's sponsoring of the Corporate Social Responsibility Forum materializes its commitment to developing the business sector and supporting companies to become a major partner in building a powerful and developed economy to embody the higher objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030, adding that the encouragement of companies to develop practices of social responsibility will come out with tangible positive results for the Qatari society and will leave a positive effect on the private sector's practices.

HE Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani stressed the keenness of the State of Qatar to revitalize the corporate social responsibility and on the accomplished achievements, thanks to the wise vision of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani .

He also referred to the efforts exerted to diversify the economy and to enhance its competitiveness as well as the tangible changes in the national economy structure and the increasing role of the private sector, pointing out that contribution of the non-oil sector in the Qatari economy increased by 11 percent and is expected to continue its upward trend in 1916.

He referred to the role the state played to enhance the contribution of various components of the private sector in the comprehensive economic development via the enactment of laws and legislations such as the new company law which made a big leap in the practice of commercial activities via the facilitation of company establishment procedures, in addition to the provision of integrated investment solutions for businessmen and investors, implementation of many initiatives including the launch of the logistics and industrial projects in southern Qatar, one of the biggest economic projects being carried out in Qatar.

HE the Minister pointed to the interest of the Ministry of Economy and Commerce to open wide prospects for investors and company owners to practice commercial activities through the launch of a package of smart electronic services which indicates the ministry's keenness to provide quantum and value-added services to dealers and the business community in general and to contribute to the enhancement of the investment climate and the revitalization of companies role in the sustainable development efforts in the country.

The forum will feature presentations and workshops on the a host of issues related the corporate social responsibility such as sustainable development, labours rights and social responsibility in the field of sport. Social responsibility awards will be given to the best Qatari companies in this field in a bid to encourage the different corporations, companies and authorities to adopt social responsibility as part of their strategic plans.
