(MENAFN- Daily News Egypt) At least two bombs were detonated Tuesday morning near a hotel in Al-Arish that is hosting judicial personnel who are supervising the electoral process in the volatile Sinai Peninsula.
State TV reported one solider was killed and five more were injured. One of the explosions, it added, happened when a car stormed into a security checkpoint and exploded.
No official statement by the military or the police have been released yet.
The bombing occurred as Egypt is concluding its long-awaited parliamentary elections.
This is not the first attack on judges in Sinai. "Islamic State" affiliates in North Sinai, known as "State of Sinai", claimed assassination of three judges in May.
The attack on judges took place on 16 May, hours after a preliminary death sentence was handed to former president Mohamed Morsi. The attack took place on the Al-Arish-Rafah international road, leaving four dead, including three judges and a driver; another judge was injured in the attack.
The group claimed the attack days following the incident in a monthly statement of the attacks they carried out during April and May. It was one of several attacks on security personnel in North Sinai.
The militant group, however, didn't release any statements claiming Tuesday's attack. But its affiliates have been praising the attack and reporting that it was conducted by members of the group.
