Malaysia, India Agree to Enhance Security Cooperation


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Malaysian Prime Mininister Najib Razak and Indian Premier Najib Modi agreed Monday to deepen cooperation in security and defence.

"We agree to continue sharing of information and best practices to address the challenges post by terrorism and other traditional and non-traditional threats," Najib said in a press conference with the Indian leader.

Modi said the two countries also enhanced their defence cooperation to include maritime security and disaster response.

"I am pleased that we have agreed to upgrade our joint (military) exercises," he said.

It was Modi's first state visit to Malaysia since he became prime minister in May 2014.

More than 6 per cent of Malaysia's over 30 million people are ethnic-Indians, brought by the British colonialists.
