Policeman succumbs to wounds in southeast Turkey


(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) A Turkish police officer who was heavily wounded during a security operation against the terrorist PKK organization in southeastern Diyarbakir province on Nov. 5 died at the hospital Sunday night medical sources said.

The deputy police commissioner Enis Kirimli "could not be saved despite all intervention" sources at the Dicle University Medical Faculty Hospital said.

Kirimli was wounded in an attack on police teams in Silvan town which also claimed the life of another police officer.

Police teams had been working to fill ditches dug by PKK terrorists in three neighborhoods as well as removing barricades since the onset of a curfew in the area two days ago.

The PKK considered a terrorist organization by Turkey the U.S. and the EU renewed its armed campaign against the Turkish state this summer.

Since July more than 180 members of the security forces have been martyred and over 1700 PKK terrorists killed in operations across Turkey and northern Iraq including airstrikes.
