Dubai hospital helps heal teen's childhood scars

Palestinian teenager Ghadeer Al Titi was just three years old when he was severely scarred in an accident involving hot oil. The 18-year-old from a Palestinian refugee camp in Hebron is today celebrating successful life-changing operations and treatment thanks to the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery Hospital (AACSH) in the Dubai Healthcare City.

The accident resulted in third degree burns on different parts of her body. With no adequate treatment available locally her family reached out to the non-profit organisation Palestinian Children Relief Fund (PCRF) for help. Through its partnership with the AACSH signed at the beginning of this year the PCRF works to provide free medical care to children from Palestine Lebanon Jordan Syria and Iraq.

Following an evaluation of Al Titi's burns by the hospital's surgeons a detailed treatment plan was drawn. She then underwent several major surgeries to help reconstruct the damaged skin. During her latest surgery the hospital's surgeons were able to repair 60 per cent of the damaged skin with additional minor procedures planned for next year.

Dr Matteo Vigo AACSH's chief medical officer said: "The volunteer support AACSH offers to children such as Al Titi is part of our CSR program which I'm proud to lead and the hospital's ongoing humanitarian support of medical missions which aim to help children in need of specialised medical attention across the Middle East.

"Al Titi really enjoyed her stay with us and it was wonderful to witness and be part of her remarkable transformation. I look forward to treating her again next year and helping improve the lives of more children and young adults like her."
