SHARJAH 22nd November 2015 (WAM) -- Schools across Sharjah are taking part in an awareness campaign organised by the Sharjah Census 2015 to familiarise students with its role in ensuring the development of the emirate. The campaign features a range of interactive workshops designed to highlight the importance of the census and the way it has been carried out through easy to understand exercises.

Organised by the management committee the awareness campaign will run until the end of November in both private and public schools including those in the Eastern and Central Region. The aim is to raise students' awareness about the importance of the census and its role in achieving sustainable development for the betterment of future generations.

Jameela Al Humairi Head of PR and Communications at Census projects said "Through this awareness campaign we hope to familiarise students with the goals and method of application of the Census 2015. We are eager to involve the emirate's students in the process and have them be fully informed. We have special teams that are specifically trained to deliver our message to students in an uncomplicated manner while explaining that the results will be a positive step for everyone in Sharjah."

She added "So far the campaign has proved to be popular and we have had a huge response from school principals and students. This will also help students to play a part in making the work of the census teams a success during the two phases of the data gathering and collating."

In February H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah issued Emiri Decree No. 07 of 2015 on conducting a general census of the population infrastructure housing and establishments in Sharjah. The census aims to provide accurate and reliable statistical data on economic social and demographic sectors and others in the Emirate of Sharjah.
