JEDDAH 22nd November 2015 (WAM) -- The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation OIC has strongly condemned the raid by militants on the Radisson Blu Hotel in Bamako Mali and the subsequent taking of hostages. It also commended the authorities for their swift and professional response in bringing the situation to an end.

OIC Secretary-General Iyad Ameen Madani described the violence unleashed on innocent people resulting in at least twenty seven deaths as an act of terror. He pointed out that the attack could only have been carried out by the enemies of peace whose designs are to clearly destabilise Mali and destroy the peace process following the signing on 20th June 2015 in Bamako of the Peace and Reconciliation Agreement between the Government and the armed movements in the north.

Madani reiterated the commitment of the OIC to continue to support the parties to the accord towards its speedy implementation as a way of isolating the terrorist groups.

While expressing his sincere sympathy and condolences to the government and people of Mali as well as the families of the victims the Secretary-General appealed to all Malians to rally round the authorities in their efforts to neutralise any act of terrorism and violence that seek to undermine peace unity reconciliation and cohesion in their country.
