UAE- 'Cut cylinder pipes led to gas leak in Sharjah factory'

The Sharjah Police have launched intensified investigations into the gas leak incident on Wednesday that left almost 80 workers in the vicinity gasping for breath. The incident was reported from a scrap factory in Sharjah Industrial Area 10 where the cylinders were stored.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the gas cylinder pipes were cut by some people on purpose. The criminal act was not only harmful for the environment but also created panic as many thought it was a bomb explosion a top police official told Khaleej Times.

Police said they received a call about the incident at 3.15pm and a team of police officers firefighters and ambulances rushed to the site. On arrival the police found that several people had fainted after inhaling the gas and rushed them to Al Qasimi Al Kuwaiti and University hospitals.

The General Command of Sharjah Police tweeted that the leak was caused after the cylinders were cut by some people to sell them as scrap.

Police also called a special team from the army to remove the cylinders in order to conduct investigations and find the real cause of the gas leak.
