From sustainable water desalination to clean energy Masdar will celebrate the UAE Innovation Week with a series of inaugurations and sustainability-focused activities.

Already 2015 was declared the year of innovation by the President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and during the coming week November 22-28 the entire nation will celebrate innovation in all fields.

"Innovation is central to our industry sector which evolves quickly and constantly. This week fits in with our overall vision and we welcome the public to our innovation oasis where we will be sharing our ideas" said Dr Ahmad Belhoul Masdar CEO.

Masdar is currently advancing development in five of the seven sectors identified in the National Innovation Strategy.

Looking to cut down carbon emissions from burning fuel the UAE's renewable energy and sustainability company is testing out future transportation solutions at Masdar City. Another focus is on education and technology development through the Masdar Institute. Of critical importance to the region Masdar is also looking into innovative solutions in water security. Masdar-hosted events for Innovation Week will therefore touch on all of these topics.

Beginning Sunday Masdar together with its partners will launch a unique business accelerator for young entrepreneurs in sustainability.

Recognising the importance of the water-energy nexus Masdar has been investing in innovative technologies to improve energy efficiency and reduce the environmental impact of the desalination process.

Thus on November 23 it will inaugurate the operational phase of the region's first renewable-powered desalination pilot plant in Al Ghantoot.

Midweek Hasan Al Redaini a Mubadala employee seconded to Masdar who travelled with Solar Impulse will share his experience in a talk at Paris Sorbonne University in Abu Dhabi.

A week-long Innovation Hub exhibition showcasing technological inventions and student projects will culminate with a Masdar Institute open day on November 28.

"Innovation happens all year round and we need to take time to celebrate the projects and people behind innovation" said Dr. Belhoul.
