Kuwait- Qatari energy minister elected GECF president


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) TEHRAN Nov 22 (KUNA) -- The 17th Ministerial Meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) on Saturday elected Qatari Minister of Energy and Industry Mohammad bin Saleh Al-Sada as president of the Forum.Iran's Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zangeneh as vice president until January 2016 while Mohammad-Hossein Adeli the Iranian secretary-general of the Forum was reelected for second two-year term IRNA news agency reported.Iran's delegate to the OPEC Hossein Kazempour Ardebili was also elected as head of the GECF executive board.The conferees approved Azerbaijan's bid for observer status alongside with the current observer countries Netherlands Iraq Oman Peru Azerbaijan and Norway.They agreed to hold the next ministerial meeting on November 17 in Doha capital of Qatar.An extraordinary meeting of GECF held on Saturday morning and chaired by Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zangeneh discussed the agenda of Summit of leaders of member states to be held on Monday. The third GECF summit will be held in Tehran on November 23 in presence of nine heads of state and government of member states according to the IRNA report. So far presidents of Bolivia Russia Equatorial Guinea Nigeria Venezuela and Iraq confirmed their participation in the summit. Turkmen president will also attend as a special guest. Russia Iran Qatar Algeria Bolivia Egypt Equatorial Guinea Libya Nigeria Trinidad and Tobago Venezuela and the United Arab Emirates are main members of the gas cartel. GECF members account for 42 percent of global gas output 70 percent of global gas reserves 40 percent of piped gas transfer and 65 percent of global trade of Liquefied Natural Gas. (end) mw.fz.gb
