Qatar- Aspire Park hosts first parkour competition

DOHA: Eighteen of the top parkour athletes in the region displayed their free running skills at the annual Wild Khaleeji tournament held yesterday at Aspire Park.

The first of its kind competition in the region Wild Khaleeji was organised by The Youth Company in cooperation with Vodafone Aspire and the World Free Running & Parkour Federation (WFPF). It is aimed at promoting free-running as an active sport for all.

Yesterday’s event was the culmination of the wild Khaleeji programme which also included a MENA online submission campaign and a road-trip around GCC to unite parkour athletes. The 18 finalists emerged from 78 submissions were received through Wild Khaleeji website representing free-runners from Algeria Bahrain Egypt Iran Jordan Kuwait Lebanon Morocco Palestine Saudi Arabia Qatar and UAE. The spectators enjoyed watching the competition which involves a set of obstacles covering a space of 1600sqm.

The competition runs until today from 2pm till 8pm.
