50 percent of Palestinians support 3rd 'Intifada': Poll

(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) Half of the Palestinians in the West Bank East Jerusalem and the blockaded Gaza Strip would support a third "Intifada" (popular uprising) against Israel’s ongoing occupation according to an opinion poll the results of which were released earlier this week.
The survey -- which was conducted by the Palestinian Center for Public Opinion from Oct. 18 to Nov. 12 and which covered a random sample of 1000 Palestinians -- found that 50 percent of the Palestinian people would support a third intifada.

Israel and the Israeli-occupied Palestinian territories were rocked by two earlier intifadas -- from 1987 to 1993 and from 2001 to 2005 -- in which thousands of Palestinians and Israelis were killed.

According to the results of this week’s poll 42 percent of Palestinians surveyed would support another armed uprising against the Israeli occupation while 27 percent support peaceful forms of protest.

The poll also found that 58 percent of those surveyed were "not satisfied" with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas with 47 percent wanting him to step down as president.

Meanwhile 39 percent of those polled did not know who they would vote for in the next Palestinian presidential election while 32 percent said they would vote for Abbas and 29 percent said they would vote forIsmail Haniyeh of Palestinian resistance movement Hamas.

Regarding the moribund "peace process" 62 percent of Palestinians surveyed opposed the resumption of peace talks with Israel which -- despite having gone on for more than two decades -- have failed to achieve any tangible results.
