Trio in Ras Al Khaimah court for stealing batteries from trucks

Three residents including two Arabs and an Asian have stood trial at the Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) Criminal Court for stealing batteries from heavy trucks from different parts of the emirate.

As per court records the case unfolded early this November when a number of heavy truck drivers lodged complaints at the RAK Police saying that the batteries of their trucks parked had gone missing when parked on the roadside.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of RAK Police initiated intensive investigations mainly at the industrial areas as well as scrap shops and electric workshops where used batteries would be possibly offered for sale.

The CID men managed to spot a scrap shop where the robbed batteries were delivered by the suspects who later proved to have committed 13 robberies of heavy truck batteries in the emirate.

The two young Arabs admitted to their crime and told the CID police that they used to track heavy trucks parked along the roadsides especially the unattended ones at dark areas and rob the batteries late in the night.

The duo also said they used to sell every battery they rob to an Asian resident who manages a scrap and electric shop at the industrial area in the emirate against only Dh20. The case was referred to the RAK Public Prosecution where the two Arab suspects and the third one admitted to buying the same against Dh20 per piece.

Drivers of the heavy trucks robbed told the RAK Public Prosecution that each battery cost them some Dh2000 and even more as per the brand and quality.

Meanwhile Chief Judge Sameh Shaker ordered adjournment of the case to next month to hear the defence lawyers and study a report submitted by a social worker on one of the defendants.
