Jordan- Officer killed sergeant injured in Amman crackdown


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman Nov. 18 (Petra) - A Criminal Investigation Department's (CID) Captain died when he was mistakenly hit by a bullet in his back from a fellow officer during an operation to apprehend a wanted suspect in Naour area western Amman on Wednesday the Public Security Department's (PSD) media office reported.

The PSD media office in statement said officers during a joint security crackdown in Naour area chased a wanted suspect with eleven warrants who stole a vehicle and attempted to escape and resisted the officers before they managed to arrest him.

During the crackdown an officer fired a shot by mistake hitting a CID captain in the back and wounding a sergeant in his arm. Both were transferred to the Al-Hussein Medical Center where the captain died. The sergeant who still receiving treatment was listed in fair condition according to the statement.

Police Prosecutor initiated an investigation to determine the circumstances of the incident.
