More support to restore glory of Kuwaiti theater play director


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) AMMAN Nov 18 (KUNA) -- Despite the existence of talented writers and performers the Kuwaiti theater still lags behind and requires much support from the state and private producers to deliver its aspired mission to the cultural life in Kuwait theatrical performances director and artist Faisal Al-Omairi said.Unfortunately there is neither entity nor individual who are really interested in investing in theatrical works in Kuwait Al-Omairi told KUNA late Tuesday following the display of his "echo of silence" play as part of the 22nd edition of the Jordanian Theatre Festival which opened Saturday.Al-Omairi urged the state and relevant bodies to embrace and sponsor the distinguish works and promote it regional and internationally.Kuwait play artists are eager to get the Kuwaiti theater movement back to its past days of glory he said.He pointed out that the performance was attended by Kuwait Ambassador to Amman Dr. Hamad Al-Duaij and large number of Kuwaiti and Arab audience."Echo of silence" play is authored by late Iraqi playwright Jassem Matroud and directed by Al-Omeiri.The play tackles the theme of coexistence among people with different cultures with a view to correcting some negative social behaviors.The festival also features theatrical performances by troupes from the United Arab Emirates Tunisia Saudi Arabia Iraq and Egypt which will be followed by academic symposia to assess the performances.(end) mjb.ibi
