Turkey Confirms Interest in Turkish Stream Akkuyu Projects Kremlin Says


(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) Turkeyremains interested in the implementation of joint energy projects withRussia Turkish President Recep TayyipErdoganhas confirmed to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.

“Turkish Stream[gas pipeline project] was discussed - interest confirmed;Akkuyu[nuclear power plant project] - interest confirmed. The area for interaction is very wide" the Kremlin spokesman DmitryPeskovtold reporters on Monday following a meeting betweenErdoganand Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The head ofRussia's Gazprom Alexey Miller was also present atthe meeting according to RIA Novosti.

Peskovalso said thatPutinandErdoganhad held an extensive discussion on Syria.

“Differences remain on a number of issues but the dialogue has been constructive as a whole”Peskovsaid according to TASS.

The Russian presidential spokesman also announced that a meeting of the Russian-Turkish Cooperation Council to be chaired byPutinandErdogan will take place in Saint Petersburg on December 15. The conflict inSyria energy projects as well as boosting trade and tourism links are expected to be high on the agenda of the meeting Anadolu Agency said.

The two presidents met forabout an hour behindclosed doors on the sidelines of the G20 summit in the Turkish resort of Antalya.

Moscow and Ankara have yet to sign an intergovernmentalagreementto buildTurkish Streambut they are at odds whether the project should kick off with a single branchfor Russian gas deliveries toTurkeyonly or a second branchshould be laid alongside it stretching toTurkey’s border with Greece for deliveries to customers in southern Europe.
