Jordan- Saskatchewan Premier urges to stopp Syrian refugee plan

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Ottawa Nov. 17 (Petra)-- Saskatchewan Prime Minister Brad Wall asked the Canadian federal government to suspend its plan to bring 25000 Syrian refugees to Canada by the end of the year after the terrorist attacks in Paris.

In a letter to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau Monday Wall wrote that he is "concerned" that swiftly bringing large numbers of asylum seekers into the country "could severely undermine the refugee screening process" Canadian media said.

"The recent attacks in Paris are a grim reminder of the death and destruction even a small number of malevolent individuals can inflict upon a peaceful country and its citizens" he added.

The province of Saskatchewan was prepared to settle 2000 Syrian refugees by the end of the year.

Meanwhile Wall has called on the Federal government last September to increase the numbers of Syrian refugees to the province by 15%.
