A 50-year-old Arab teacher of Islamic studies succumbed to fatal injuries after he was run-over by a speeding car driven by a young Emirati identified as H.M. at Al Rams area north of Ras Al Khaimah city on Saturday afternoon.

Deep grief and sorrow blanketed the education sector in the emirate as the victim was known for his good manners.

The Syrian deceased identified as Naif Zakaria Ibrahim was heading to visit victims of earlier road accidents according to his friends.

"The victim was working with the Ghalila elementary school 30km to the north of RAK city but used to stay at Al Rams area where he was working as a mosque imam before moving to the education ministry as a teacher of Islamic studies."

Murshidi Sabri Mohammed 33 a colleague of the deceased told Khaleej Times that the victim was planning to head to Sharjah accompanied by two of his friends to check on two sons of an Emirati teacher who works with them in the same school.

"The two boys of our national colleague are receiving treatment in a hospital in Sharjah after they were injured in a road accident" he said.

"The victim talked to me on the phone just few minutes before the accident took place as we were planning to go to Sharjah to visit our friend's sons."

The duo agreed to meet on the other side of an internal road at Al Rams area. "I was waiting with another friend of ours but he did not show up and did not even reply to our phone calls."

What aroused their doubts was an ambulance leaving the same area. "We followed the ambulance to the hospital and discovered that the patient was our friend."

"Though an ambulance medics and rescue teams rushed to the scene and shifted the victim to the nearest hospital he could not make it and died upon arrival."
