Sharjah Police on Saturday rescued a seven-month-old Arab baby who was about to be killed by an illegal Ethiopian maid hired by his family who live in Muwailih area.

Police said they received a call from a woman at 2.30am who said she heard constant crying of a baby and sounds of destruction from her neighbour's flat.

The police broke into the flat where they found the baby crying while the maid was throwing stuff around and was about to hit the baby with solid tool that could have caused his death.

The police arrested the maid and contacted the parents of the baby who were not at home.

Col. Ibrahim Al Ajil director of CID at Sharjah Police said that without the call of the neighbour and the quick response and interference of the police the baby would have been killed by the maid.

He also urged families not to hire illegal maids who know they can get away with crime since the employer will not be able to inform the police to avoid being questioned for hiring them illegally.

These maids exploit that fear of employers from the law and commit crimes such as theft and hurting children he added.
