The 12th meeting of GCC Zakat bodies' chiefs kicks off


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The 12th meeting of heads of agencies responsible for Zakat (alms) in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states got underway here on Sunday.
The meeting, organized by Qatar's Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, will tackle a number of issues related to performance of Zakat bodies in the Gulf region.
Director of Qatar's Zakat Fund Department at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, Jassim bin Mohammed Al Kubaisi, said in the opening speech that this meeting comes to reflect the cooperation and coordination between Zakat agencies in the GCC countries.
He hailed distinguished social and economic role conducted by Zakat institutions in various parts of the Islamic world, which sets an example that "encourages us to exert more efforts in the field," he affirmed.
Today's meeting will conclude with a host of recommendations, reports and productive decisions which will contribute to boosting the process of Zakat activities in the regional countries.
The meeting will also discuss the fourth training plan for years (2016-2018), besides honoring winners of GCC contest for research and creative works in the area of Zakat, besides "Zakat Diploma".
