Ajman Municipality in association with Amina Hospital in Ajman are initiating a month long breast cancer awareness campaign in Ajman which will be known as the "Feel the Bumps - Looks for Lumps' campaign. As a symbolic representation of the campaign all road humps and pedestrian crossings have been painted pink in the Corniche Road Ajman raising awareness for the early detection of breast cancer.

"Whilst most people are aware of breast cancer many forget to take the steps to stay vigilant of any changes through performing regular self-breast examinations. As early detection is the best prevention they encourage all women to learn how to self-examine regularly reporting any changes to their doctor immediately.

Although we have made a lot of progress in raising awareness of the importance to self-examination and knowing what to look for we still have a long way to go. The aim of the 'Feel the Bumps - Look for Lumps' campaign is to raise public awareness of the symptoms of breast cancer knowing what to look for how to detect it its treatment and the need for a reliable permanent cure in the not too distant future." Said Dr Eduard Lotz hospital director managing director for the Northern Emirates and group chief medical officer Amina Hospital.

In the UAE breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer with the number of breast cancer cases having increased by around 20 per cent since 2009 states the DHA.

"The good news though is that survival rates are also increasing because of the awareness of the importance of early detection. In 1970s around five out of 10 women diagnosed with breast cancer survived now it's more than eight out of 10 with almost two out of three women now surviving beyond 20 years of the initial diagnosis according to cancer research in developed countries" Dr Lotz added.

Ajman Municipality has already won several accolades for initiating and supporting activities for social interests continuing to support Breast Cancer Awareness every year. The Amina Hospital in Al Quds Ajman is a new brand of quality assured hospitals from Anglo Arabian Healthcare and is all set to deliver patient centric care for the communities of Ajman and the Northern Emirates.
