MEC confiscates pirated CDs, copying equipment
(MENAFN- Gulf Times) A number of shops have been taken to task for selling pirated CDs in the Industrial Area. The Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) found 3,382 pirated copies in these shops as well as a couple of equipment used for copying purposes.
Accordingly, the pirated CDs and the equipment were seized by the MEC and the outlets were issued violations based on Law No 7 for 2002 pertaining to the Protection of Copyright and Neighbouring Rights, which lays down fines and confiscation of pirated goods.
The ministry has urged consumers to ensure that the items they buy are original ones coming from authorised distributors.
