Kuwaiti play features in Jordanian Theatre Festival

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The 22nd edition of the Jordanian Theatre Festival opened on Saturday night with a number of selected plays from various Arab countries, including Kuwait, featuring prominently.
Kuwait is represented by the "echo of silence" play authored by late Iraqi playwright Jassem Matroud and directed by Kuwait's Faisal Al-Omeiri, said Abdullah Ghalloum, deputy chairman of the Kuwaiti Theater Troupe and head of the Kuwaiti delegation to the event. "The National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters (NCCAL) selected Kuwaiti Theater Troupe as representative of the Kuwait theatre which, in turn, selected the 'echo of silence' play," he said in statements to KUNA following the opening ceremony.
Ghalloum noted that his troupe performed the play at Al-Sharjah theatre festival and plans to take part in Kuwait festival in early December.
"The play tackles the theme of coexistence among people with different cultures with a view to correcting some negative social behaviors," he added, calling for more support to the public and private theatrical troupes in Kuwait.
The agenda of the festival includes offering theatrical performances by troupes from the United Arab Emirates, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Egypt, which will be followed by academic symposia to assess the performances.
