Qatar- 3382 pirated CDs DVDs seized


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) An inspector from the Ministry of Economy and Commerce checking an outlet selling CDs and DVDs for pirated copies.

DOHA: In a crackdown on software piracy inspectors from the Ministry of Economy and Commerce have seized 3382 pirated compact discs (CDs) and digital video discs (DVDs).

Two devices used by pirates to churn out copies from original CDs and DVDs were also seized from an outlet in the Industrial Area.

The massive crackdown continues to root out software piracy from the country to help protect intellectual property rights.

Outlets selling counterfeit products were booked under Law No. 7 of 2002 to protect intellectual property rights the ministry said in a statement.

It urged customers to buy only original products and make sure a CD or DVD is original before purchasing.

Outlets selling CDs and DVDs should obtain licences before starting such activities.

Legal action is to be taken against errant outlets for violating intellectual property rights regulations the ministry said.
