The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority or Dewa has signed a memorandum of understanding with Seven Tides International a Dubai-based luxury hospitality developer and holding company to enhance cooperation between the two parties and achieve the Dewa's three smart initiatives - Shams Dubai smart applications and grids and green charger.

The MoU was signed by Waleed Salman executive vice-gresident of strategy and business development at the Dewa on behalf of Dewa managing director and CEO Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer and Abdulla bin Sulayem CEO of Seven Tides International. It was attended by Dr Yousef Al Akraf executive vice-president of business support and human resources at the Dewa and representatives from both sides.

The agreement will encourage building owners to install photovoltaic solar panels to generate electricity and develop smart applications to speed up electricity connections. It also aims to guarantee fast response times for the immediate reconnection of electricity during power outages in addition to smart consumption using smart metres to enhance the happiness of residents and citizens. It also aims to improve the sustainability of resources in addition to establishing infrastructure for electric vehicle charging stations.

Al Tayer observed that the MoU supports the Dewa's efforts to achieve the smart city initiative launched by His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai to make Dubai the smartest city in the world.
