Turkey announces early election results

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Turkey's Supreme Election Board (YSK) announced the official results of a repeat parliamentary election on November 1, formally paving the way for the inauguration of a new Parliament and the formation of a new government.
YSK Chairman Sadi Guven said at a press conference in Ankara, on Thursday, that the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) won 317 seats in the 550-member Parliament.
The Republican People's Party (CHP) secured 134 seats, while the pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) officially became the third largest party represented in Parliament with 59 seats. The Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) got the remaining 40 seats.
Under Turkish law, Parliament's General Assembly convenes five days after the announcement of the official election results by the YSK. Thus, the new Parliament is now expected to convene on November 17 for a session in which the newly elected parliamentarians will be sworn in.
A total of 85 percent of 56.9 million registered voters participated in the election.
