(MENAFN- Saudi Press Agency) Stockholm Muharram 30 1437 Nov 12 2015 SPA -- Temporary border controls to help manage the flow of migrants into Sweden were set to go into effect midday Thursday (1100 GMT) as the country emulated recent moves by Germany and Austria dpa reported.
People arriving to Sweden will need to have a passport or some other form of identity card Home Affairs Minister Anders Ygeman said on Swedish television.
Police were likely to conduct "spot checks" he added shortly before the formal cabinet decision authorizing the move.
The measure - announced late Wednesday - was to be in place for an initial 10-day period but "will likely be extended" said Ygeman.
The Swedish Migration Agency's Head Anders Danielsson has forecast that between 140000 and 190000 people could apply for asylum this year far more than last year's 80000 bids.
