Liberia: Praise for 17 year old award winning caigner
(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) A Liberian teenager who won an international award for his work with children victimized by violence has been described as a source of pride by his government.
Abraham Keita 17 a resident of West Point – one of the biggest slums in Liberia’s capital – received the International Children’s Peace Prize in the Netherlands earlier this week. The teenager was awarded the 2015 prize for his resilience in advocating for justice for children affected by violence. He was also recognized for his leading role in advocating the adoption of a children’s law in Liberia’s parliament. Speaking to Anadolu Agency in Monrovia on Wednesday Liberia’s Deputy Minister for Information Isaac Jackson said the government viewed Abraham’s award as a proud moment for the nation and for youths around the world. Jackson also extended his appreciation to the award organizers – the Kids Rights Foundation: “Our government wants to thank the Kids Rights Foundation for such recognition given to this child and the young people of the world who are doing something productive. “Although I am not sure if any government official escorted Keita at this event we are very glad that one of the Nobel laureates of our country Leymah Gbowee was the one who presented Keita’s award.” The minister said the government is expected to welcome Abraham upon his return from the Netherlands and that Abrahamwould subsequently meet Liberian president Ellen Johnson Sirleaf – herself a Nobel prize winner in 2011.
