Saudi- Two women die of swineflu in Jazan
(MENAFN- Arab News) JEDDAH: An outbreak of swine flu the H1N1 virus has claimed the lives of two Saudi women in Jazan according to a report in a local publication on Wednesday.
One of the victims was a 16-year-old inmate of a Ministry of Social Affairs rehabilitation center in Jazan. The teenager was moved to Jazan General Hospital last week with two other women infected with the virus. She died Tuesday.
The other victim a woman in her twenties was infected with swine flu a month ago. Members of her family said that she had difficulty breathing a high temperature and other complications. She died while in hospital.
She was from Dhabia village in Sabiya governorate to the north of Jazan. The hospital handed her body over to her family for prayers and burial at the village cemetery.
Meanwhile local media outlets have reported that there are other people infected with swine flu in Jazan and urged the Health Ministry to take action before this develops into an epidemic.
There was a major outbreak of swine flu in 2009 across the world which also affected Saudi Arabia with over 15000 cases and more than 100 deaths reported in that year.
Symptoms of the 2009 swine flu pandemic in humans were similar to those of seasonal influenza and influenza-like illness in general. They included fever cough sore throat body aches headache chills and fatigue. However the 2009 outbreak showed an increased percentage of patients reporting diarrhea and vomiting.
