Three police martyred in Turkey's southeast

Three police officers were martyred Tuesday evening in a PKK terrorist attack in Turkey’s southeastern province of Sirnak police said.

The attack in Silopi close to the Syrian and Iraqi borders left another officer wounded when an armored vehicle was targeted with an improvised bomb as it passed through the town’s Sehit Harun Boy neighborhood.

The three officers died in hospital.

Security forces launched an operation in the aftermath of the attack and gunshots were heard as fighting continued into the night.

The PKK - considered a terrorist organization by Turkey the U.S. and EU - resumed its armed campaign in late July. More than 150 members of the security forces have been martyred in the violence while the military says it has killed around 2000 terrorists.
