Three police officers killed in Turkey's southeast

Ankara: Three police officers were killed Tuesday evening in a PKK terrorist attack in Turkeys southeastern province of Sirnak Turkish police said.

The attack in Silopi close to the Syrian and Iraqi borders left another officer wounded when an armored vehicle was targeted with an improvised bomb as it passed through the towns Sehit Harun Boy neighborhood Turkish Anadolu News (AA) reported.

The three officers died in hospital.

Security forces launched an operation in the aftermath of the attack and gunshots were heard as fighting continued into the night.

The PKK - considered a terrorist organization by Turkey the U.S. and EU - resumed its armed campaign in late July.

More than 150 members of the security forces have been martyred in the violence while the military says it has killed around 2000 terrorists.
