New speed limits on Abu Dhabi Al Ghuwaifat Road from Sunday

Brigadier Khalifa Mohamed Al Khaiaili acting Deputy Director of the Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police announced that the new speed limits for the Abu Dhabi - Al Ghuwaifat Road will go into effect as of next Sunday November 15. He also noted that the new signage has been installed indicating the road speed and the radar speed limits have been changed accordingly on the three phases of the road.

Brigadier Al Khaiaili also explained that the project to widen the Abu Dhabi- Ghuwaifat Road is among the key projects that reflect the government's commitment to achieve traffic safety and prevention. "This road is one of the ten most dangerous roads in the emirate" he noted. "Technical studies have identified the risk factors on the road including lack of lighting which is dangerous especially at high speeds and could lead to loss of control and accidents."

Colonel Jamal Salem Al Ameri Chief of Public Relations Section at the Traffic and Patrols Directorate of Abu Dhabi Police explained that the modified speed limits on the Abu Dhabi - Al Ghuwaifat road are divided into three key stretches.

The first stretch starts from Al Dhafra bridge diversion to Baynunah Forest (stretching 176 km/both ways) with speed limits of 100kmph and including a grace speed radar setting at 121kmph. The second stretch starts from Baynunah Forest to Barakah region with a speed limit of 120kmph and including a grace speed radar setting of 141kmph. The third stretch extends from Barakah to Al Ghuwaifat (64km/ both ways) with a speed limit of 100kmph and including a grace speed radar setting of 121kmph. The speed limit for heavy trucks will remain set at 80 kmph while the speed limit of passenger buses will be set at 100 kmph for all phases of the road.

Colonel Al Ameri called upon motorists to adhere to the designated speed limits in order to maintain their safety. This would help to boost safety levels and enhance protection for all road users across the Abu Dhabi Emirate.
