Doha: Second seed Mohamed Reda of Egypt stunned top seed Jan Schoor of Germany in the final of the first Qatar Circuit Squash Tournament at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex.

In a closely fought encounter the Egyptian won 11-8 8-11 11-3 12-10. “I was really lucky to win the fourth game and the match at that stage. I was 2-9 down but I just told myself to keep pushing. That paid off in the end which was something very nice for me” Reda said after his win.

“This is my third title of the year. From here I’m heading straight for the World Open and hopefully I’ll try to do well there.

“We’d played a match last year and I had lost 1-3 to him. But this time I wanted to fight harder and win. He has good attacking game so I tried to keep the ball away from his body with tight lengths.

Reda had lost the Madison Open quarter-finals to Schoor last year. But he earlier claimed the Norwegian Open and Indian Circuit crown.

Schoor who had a super time on the Tour last season as he won three titles has not been able to repeat that showing. The German lauded the Egyptian for his victory. “I don’t know what happened to me. In the fourth game he changed his game a bit. I went for a few attacks but suddenly with a few lucky winners he just came back and I couldn’t realise.

“In the end I think he was a bit more lucky with the last two points. That made all the difference. If I had won that game no one knows what might have happened after that.

“But I think I didn’t pay full attention to what he was doing in the fourth game. I’ll sit down and try to analyse. But to be honest he played hit some very good shots to win” added Schoor.
