US confirms death of American in Yemen

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The US on Tuesday confirmed that an American citizen has died in Yemen, but gave no details on the surrounding circumstances.
John Hamen had been detained by Houthi rebels at Sanaa airport when he arrived in the country on October 20, State Department Deputy Spokesperson Mark Toner said.
"We obviously express our deepest condolences to his family and friends. The State Department provides all possible consular assistance to the family, and that included getting his remains back home," he added.
There are currently no US consular staff in Yemen, but Toner would not specify which third party country is assisting Americans.
