Jordan chairs 2020 census meeting

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Jordan on Tuesday presided over the first meeting of the 2020 general population and housing census aimed at discussing alternative approaches of censuses with a focus on the possibility of the use of administrative records in the participating countries.

The meeting was organized by the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in cooperation with the Arab Institute for Training and Research in Statistics.

A total of 17 states attended the meeting and showcased products and techniques they used in the dissemination strategies that these countries adopted in carrying out the census process. They also reviewed difficulties they faced and their future plans and preparations, Jordan's Department of Statistics (DOS) said in a statement.

The DOS presented a work sheet on the census process which will be implemented electronically in Jordan for the fist time at the regional level via Tablet Pcs rather than the old and high-cost method of papers.
