UNHCR commends UAE s role and support for its humanitarian activities

IRBIL Iraq 10th November 2015 (WAM) -- The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees UNHCR has praised the support provided by the United Arab Emirates to the activities of the Commission and its humanitarian programmes.

Bruno Geddo the UNHCR Representative in Iraq said that the relationship with the UAE is strategic referring to the fact that the commission has already worked in partnership with the UAE in various international crises.

He also praised the distinguished efforts of the Emirates Red Crescent ERC.

Mr. Geddo noted the two types of aid provided by the UAE to support the UNHCR's activities including direct support to the commission and an indirect one provided by the UAE's concerned authorities for the relief of refugees.

He said that both forms of support are very important for the relief of refugees and providing them with a decent livelihood.

The UNHCR's representative said that the UAE is building camps for displaced persons and refugees as well as the implementation of infrastructure which is very important for the activities of the commission.

Geddo emphasised that the UAE's support is being implemented with high efficiency in terms of quality expressing the UNHCR's gratitude for the continuous support.
