S. Korea to construct USD3.5b airport on Jeju Island

(MENAFN) As passenger traffic keeps surging by the hour, South Korea is about to build a second USD3.5 billion airport on the nation's southern resort island of Jeju, as the available data shows.

The sharp surge in demand for low cost carrier flights and the increasing admiration of Jeju Island off South Korea's southern coast has made it vital to raise air traffic volume on Jeju.

Moreover, the new one-runway airport will be situated on the southeastern side of Jeju between the city of Seogwipo and Seongsan, and its runway will be 3,200 meters long and 60 meters wide.

The island is presently served only by Jeju International Airport, placed on its northern shores, but its infrastructure will not be able to handle the estimated growth in flights down the road.
