Jordan- General census is "legal entitlement"- Government


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Ministers of Planning and International Cooperation, Imad Fakhoury, State for Media Affairs, the government spokesman, Mohammad Al-Momani, and Director General of the Department of Statistics (DOS), Qasim Al-Zoubi, said the Kingdom's national census 2015 is a legal entitlement that takes place once every ten years.

The officials gave the remarks during a press conference held Saturday to talk about the 2015 census due to take place in November 30th.

Al-Momani said the general census is a national duty and everyone has to deal with it, as a legal entitlement, conducted by countries all over the world, every ten years, to help them planning properly.

He also stressed the importance of the census in providing decision makers with the most important demographic, economic and other figures to put in place necessary plans and programs to offer the best of basic services to citizens.

He pointed out to the participation of 25,000 citizens from various ministries and government institutions and in cooperation with NGOs, civil society and the private sector, under the supervision of experts from the DOS.

Momani stressed the importance of citizens and residents' cooperation with researchers at the census, noting that the aim of the census is purely economic and developmental and has no other goals.

Fakhoury said the census aims to provide data and full information for the sectors of demographic, economic, educational, health, housing, infrastructure services, roads, water, electricity and other, to develop the necessary plans and program to offer the best of basic services to citizens.
