UN official visits Jordan to discuss Syrian refugee crisis


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Top UN development official, Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Chair of the United Nations Development Group (UNDG), Helen Clark, arrived in Amman on Saturday on an official visit to Jordan.


Clark will participate at the Resilience Development Forum hosted by the government and convened by UNDP on the Dead Sea shores.

The Forum brings together key humanitarian and development stakeholders to collectively consider future directions of the response to the protracted crisis in Syria.

The gathering comprises UN agencies, international financial institutions, donors, representatives of international and national non-governmental organizations and the private sector, alongside senior representatives of governments in the countries neighboring the war-torn country.


The UN official is scheduled to exchange views with members of the government on the role of UNDP in supporting the implementation of the Jordan Response Plan to the Syria Crisis, which embraces the resilience-based development approach.

She will also discuss prospects for continued UN support to host communities in Jordan hosting , to be enable them to cope with increasing livelihood pressures.

The Administrator will also visit UNDP-supported projects in areas most affected by the Syria crisis, namely, in Irbid and Mafraq governorates, meet with project beneficiaries representatives from local authorities and other UNDP development partners.

Clark due to inaugurate with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs, Nasser Judeh, the new premises of UNDP's Regional Hub for Arab States, recently established in Amman to bring integrated development support services closer to UNDP's Country Offices across the region.

The Hub comprises over 70 development experts and practitioners spanning all areas of UNDP expertise.
