US President Rejects Keystone XL Pipeline
(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) US President Obama announced Friday that he had rejected the request from a Canadian company to build the Keystone XL oil pipeline. The announcement ended a seven-year review that had become a flash point in the debate over his climate policies.
Speaking in a press conference, Obama said that the pipelines wouldn't have made a useful contribution to the US economy over the long-term. The pipeline would have carried 800,000 barrels a day of carbon-heavy petroleum from the Canadian oil sands to the Gulf Coast of Mexico.
